The "Kremlin Cup" is the first International Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament in Russia founded in 1990 by a Swiss businessman Sasson Kakshouri.
Prize money for the period since 1990 to 1993 was 330.000 - 350.000 USD, and since 1994 to 2007 it was 1.100.000 - 1.1125.000 USD. These years "Kremlin Cup" tournament had been repeatedly recognized as the best in organization among ATP Tour Tournaments.
Prize money of ATP Tour Tournament in 2009 counts 1.080.500 USD and Tournament belongs to the category “250” in ATP World Tour calendar.
Women's tournament "Kremlin Cup", the successor of "Moscow Ladies Open", was renamed in 1996. "Kremlin Cup" is WTA Tour Tournament with the prize money of 400.000 USD in 1996 and 926.000 USD (in 1997-1998). The next years tournament money prize exceeded 1.000.000 USD and ranked “Tier I” category in Sony Ericsson WTA Tour calendar.
In 2009 the Women's tournament ranks “Premier 600” and has prize money - 1.000.000 USD.
The first-ever combined ATP Tour and WTA Tour Tournaments "Kremlin Cup" - 2000 were played simultaneously indoors in one week. #1 world's ranked player Martina Hingis took place in the "Kremlin Cup" for the first time, Russian player Anna Kournikova was in final. The leading Russian top 10 ATP ranking players Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin were among the participants in the main draw.
In 2001 Evgeny Kafelnikov became a fivehold winner of the Kremlin Cup and broke a record in ATP tournaments' quantity won in a row. For the first time in Kremlin Cup's history 3 Russian tennis players took part in Women's Singles and Doubles finals.
In 2003 for the first time in the Kremlin Cup's history the Russian player - Anastasia Myskina won the WTA Tour tournament in singles. Also, three Russian tennis players took part in Women's Doubles Final.
In 2004 for the first time in the Kremlin Cup's history the Russian players won the ATP and WTA Tour tournaments in singles and doubles.

Since 2005 to 2008 all the winners of ATP Tour Tournament in singles were Russian players. Igor Andreev won the tournament in 2005, in 2006 and 2007 the winner was Nikolay Davydenko, and in 2008 Igor Kunitsin became the trophy-holder.
Lately that victorious tradition has been taken by Russian women as well. Thus, in 2006 Anna Chakvetadze won the Women's singles, in 2007 the winner was Elena Dementieva. In 2008 Vera Zvonareva reached the final but lost to Serbian Helena Jankovic who became No.1 in the world on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Rankings
